Diabetes and electronic cigarettes !

Many people with or without diabetes wonder whether electronic cigarettes are compatible with this chronic disease. In other words, are e-liquids too sweet for vaping?

Diabetes affects around 3.7 million people in France, and is caused by an imbalance in the body's ability to assimilate, regulate and store sugars from food and drink.

There are two types of diabetes:

• Type 1 diabetes: affects around 15% of diabetics. Much rarer and much more serious. People with this condition no longer produce insulin during digestion.

• Type 2 diabetes: Affects the majority of the population, around 85%. The body generates insulin, but not in sufficient quantity.

Diabetics have to follow a healthy, low-sugar diet to prevent the disease from getting worse. So diabetes is already a burden on the body, and synonymous with fatigue.

Abnormally high blood sugar levels can lead to severe health problems, including circulation problems.

Do e-liquids contain sugar?

E-liquids used for vaping are not sprinkled with sugar. Today, sugar and its derivatives (sucrose, glucose, fructose) are not part of the composition of an e-liquid.

However, e-liquid manufacturers sometimes use sweeteners such as sucralose, commonly known as the "Sweetener". A sweetener is not sugar. This sweetener is guaranteed "zero calorie" and gives the e-liquid a sweetness effect.

It is therefore sometimes used in very small quantities in e-liquids. For a 10 ml bottle, a few small drops are enough to give a sweet note to an e-liquid.

However, at first glance, vape names imply the presence of large quantities of sugar in e-liquids (gourmet e-liquids, caramel candy e-liquids, etc.), whereas this is not true.

Why does vegetal glycerin give e-liquids a sweet taste?

It's important to mention that a 50/50 (PG/VG) e-liquid will have a sweeter, more gourmand vapor than an 80/20 (PG/VG). The more vegetal glycerin there is in an e-liquid, the sweeter the taste.
